Leather belts for men: from suit to jeans
Many men wear a belt almost every day, and this is exactly where good material shows its worth. Thin leather soon creases at the buckle and loses its line. A buffalo leather belt, by contrast, is sturdy and hard-wearing and develops an attractive patina over time. If you prefer something softer, choose suede with its velvety surface, while embossed buffalo leather with a croc look appears more striking than smooth leather.
Suit or jeans: which belt for what
A suit calls for a plain belt in black or dark brown with a discreet buckle; a matt buckle blends in unobtrusively here. With jeans and chinos you can be more relaxed: a suede belt in warm cognac or a belt with a croc-embossed finish adds a visible accent. A belt that picks up the colour or texture of the leather also goes well with a men's leather jacket.
Belt and shoes in harmony
An old style rule still applies today: belt and shoes should match in colour. Black shoes call for a black belt, brown shoes for a belt in a similar shade of brown. This is particularly easy with men's loafers, which work with chinos and suits alike. If you like to be consistent, add one of our leather bags in the same tone, such as a briefcase for the office.
Length and fit
A belt fits correctly when the buckle closes comfortably in one of the middle holes and the end reaches the first belt loop. If it is too long, the end sticks out; if it is too short, the leather is under strain. Ideally, try the belt on with the trousers you wear it with most often.
