Rugs in cowhide and sheep's wool
A rug changes a room more than you might think. It softens footsteps, adds a touch of colour and turns a bare floor into a spot where you like to linger. Hollert German Leather relies on hide and wool for this. Both have a lively surface that suits modern furniture just as well as wood, linen and leather.
Cowhide rug made from patches
For the cowhide rug, hand-sorted hides are cut into squares, matched by colour and sewn together by hand. The result is a graphic pattern that, depending on the hide, can be high-contrast or understated. The back is reinforced to protect the floor, and small pads at the corners stop the rug from slipping. Under the coffee table, in front of the sofa or in the study, the rug feels homely without dominating the room. Whole hides, including cowhide and reindeer hide, can be found among our decorative and natural hides.
Runners in pure new wool
A runner in pure new wool is the softer, warmer alternative. The wool is worked by hand, depending on the model knotted by hand knot by knot, and comes in warm shades of brown. Sheep's wool is warming, hard-wearing and dirt-repellent, which makes a wool rug suitable for areas with a lot of foot traffic as well: the hallway, the spot in front of the bed or the way to your desk. If you like it even softer, add a fleece from our sheepskin collection in front of the bed or over the bench.
Care and combinations
Both types of rug need little effort. You can vacuum the cowhide rug on a low setting when needed, while the wool runner just needs shaking out from time to time and airing outdoors. It is best to dab stains straight away with a damp cloth rather than rubbing them. Together with a blanket from our wool blankets, you create a harmonious look in natural materials, and further ideas for cushions, hides and wall objects can be found under home accessories and decor.
