Buying a sheepskin blanket – natural warmth for your home

Anyone looking to buy a sheepskin blanket usually wants two things at once: a natural product of noticeably high quality, and a piece that makes the sofa or the bed instantly more inviting. Types of fleece and how they differ

The character of a blanket comes above all from the type of fleece. Toscana sheepskin has long, silky curls that give the surface a lively play of light and shadow. Merino sheepskin is denser and finer in the pile, which makes it look calmer and more even. Both warm naturally and stay breathable. A genuine sheepskin blanket is always a natural product: hair length, texture and shade vary slightly from hide to hide, and that is precisely where its appeal lies. The palette stays calm and natural, from pale, creamy tones through to deep anthracite.

Why sheepskin regulates temperature

The fine, crimped hairs trap countless small pockets of air. That air insulates against the cold while moisture is released outwards instead of building up. This is why a sheepskin blanket feels warm in winter and never clammy in summer – and why fleece works on the bed all year round.
